I really LOVE this distiller, but I find it ridiculous that it comes supplied with a polycarbonate water container with a number 7 on it!
It's sort of ironic, that we're seeking the health benefits of pure water, only to have that negated by dangerous BPA leeching into the water!
I immediately threw my bottle into the recycle bin, and bought a 1 gallon Sterlite Plastic water pitcher, available at Walmart for $2.57.
So because of this shamelessly supplied water bottle, I can't rate this more than 1 star.
Megahome really needs to address this issue -- Great distiller, BUT......
This unit does a fantastic job distilling water. The water is absolutely pure with nothing in it to grow bacteria, etc. I purchased this unit to clean the water for my humidifier in the winter. The thought process was to use distilled water so I wouldn't need to constantly replace the filters. The problem I encountered was that my electric bill went up about as high as would be usual in a hot summer with the A/C running frequently.

I've tried drinking the water, but even after the unit has produced about a hundred gallons, it still has a metallic taste that makes my teeth ache and sucks the moisture out of my mouth (a reaction I find rather odd considering water is moist). That said, at the end of humidifier season I left the last pot of distilled water in the catch-jug, thinking I would use it if the winter came back one last time. Recently, I realized it had been sitting there for about 5 months. There was no mold, mildew or odor. I tasted it, hoping time reversed the effect of the water on my palate; it didn't.

To sum up, if you need a distiller for any reason, I recommend this one. However, if you have a high sensitivity to the various tastes of water, as I have (I can taste the difference between tap, Brita, Dasani, Ice Mountain, Figi, Evian and many others), I would not recommend it for producing drinking water.
-- Nice machine, but it uses a TON of energy.
This countertop distiller can distill 1 gallon of cold water in about 6 hours. I used filtered water in the tank thinking that water was cleaner than the tap. Even with using filtered water, there was a brown, mucky, sweet smelling residue at the bottom of the tank. I'm guessing it could be benzene, a petrol by-product. I'm avoiding using tap water because if the filtered water is that dirty, I don't want to bother with the tap.

The distiller was larger than I expected and can really warm up the room it's being used in. The fan is as noisy as a floor fan on the maximum setting. Distilling water before going to bed is ideal since the machine automatically shuts off when it's done.

A bottle of citric acid monohydrate was included to clean the distiller after using it for a week. Two tablespoons mixed in hot water makes the tank look like new!

The distilled water tastes like distilled water. It tastes much cleaner than only filtered water. -- Great water distiller
Works great but it really takes about 6 hrs to distill a gallon of water. Very easy and not too noisy. I would recommend going with the plastic for durability. -- No complaints
If you're going through the trouble of distilling water to remove all contaminants, why would you store it in a polycarbonate bottle? Bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical suspected of causing endocrine problems, is a key component of polycarbonate. Better to use the version with a glass collection bottle. -- Polycarbonate = BPA
