User Reviews
Works great. I could immediately taste the better water quality. Easy to install. My only complaint- it is very noticeable on the counter top. Also, there was no product information with this item. Nothing to tell you how to tell when to change the filter or HOW to change the filter. It doesn't look that complicated but it would have been nice to have it. -- Satisfied customer
We live in San Diego. The water here is ok but has a bad aftertaste. This filter looks solidly built, extremely easy to hook up although the instruction could be better, like showing how to install the filter which is actually very easy. The filter is 0.5 micro, better than the description, and much bigger than the typical filter inside the fridge.
I compared the taste of tap water, frige filtered water (a SamSung), and water from this filter (from a tap). This filter wins handsdown! It even has a faint sweet aftertaste to it. The frige filtered water comes second, which is noticably worse tasteting than water from this filter. The tap water in comparison is undrinkable without ice.
For the same amount of money for a fridge filter I get this wonderful system with two high quality 0.5 micro filters. Can't be beat! -- unbeatable value, great quaility water
Everyone has said what needs to be said. I will just add my feedback that this is the easiest and best way to get clean, clear water. The replacement filters are everywhere and are also very inexpensive.
Buy this filter! -- Best Bang for The Buck!
I purchased this for my parents a while back and have no complaints with it. I can definitely say that mine was entirely white whereas this one is has a cool clear plastic cover. I'd like to see the gunk so that it reminds me when to change the filter. Like an earlier reviewer said, it's definitely convenient to not have to deal with a proprietary filter when the company stops making it. (PUR CT-6000L countertop!) The only reason I knock a star off is why can't they make it a little more aesthetically pleasing? I point to the same aforementioned PUR CT-6000L as an example. I suppose then they would have to use a proprietary filter. What a bind. As far as the filter goes, I currently have no complaints and it's going strong so this is a good choice if you just want to keep things simple. Tap water in my area is not exactly bad but on those days when they dump in chlorine/chloramine to keep the system clean and healthy, this comes in quite handy to eliminate that chlorine taste. Of the vendors that sell this, I believe mine came from waterfiltersonline.com and I also purchased the http://www.amazon.com/Matrikx-Carbon-Filter-Replacement-Cartridge/dp/B000246SMS/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_text_b as part of the $50 package that amazon recommends. So technically, I guess the Matrikx is doing the actual job of taking out the chlorine taste. 5 stars for that!
On a side note, for those who are seduced by nice looking filters and don't mind some extra work and also have an extra sink hole, consider the Delta Simply PUR faucet. http://www.amazon.com/Filtration-Single-Handle-Traditional-Stainless-210-SS/dp/B000KQ5T0A . It also comes in shiny chrome. It's available at several other places even if it's discontinued on amazon. It uses a proprietary filter, sure, but at least that one is the same one used in all of their PUR faucet filters so it should be more prevalent and less risky of being discontinued. The filter media itself resides in a container that is mounted under the sink and you'll need to run some water lines so you'll need to consider that before purchasing.
-- Does the job nicely
This seems like a fine filter but there were no installation instructions, no adapters and no specifications saying what type of threads the diverter valve requires. So, I have to drag it down to the hardware store and hope I find someone with half a brain that knows which adapter will work. Also, there are no help pages or instructions on the Purenex site to download.
I am not impressed....So much for ordering something on-line and saving hassles and time.
