Big Berkey Water Filter System with 2 Black Berkey Filter Elements

The versatile Big Berkey® system is the ideal system for use at home with small or medium sized families, travel, outdoor activities or during unexpected emergencies.

This powerful system purifies both treated water and untreated raw water from such sources as remote lakes, streams, stagnant ponds and water supplies in foreign countries, where regulations may be substandard at best. Perfect for everyday use, outdoor activities and a must in hostile environments where electricity, water pressure or treated water may not be available.

The Big Berkey® system removes pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites entirely and extracts harmful chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, organic solvents, radon 222 and trihalomethanes. It also reduces nitrates, nitrites and unhealthy minerals such as lead and mercury. This system is so powerful it can remove food coloring from water without removing the beneficial minerals your body needs. Virtually no other system can duplicate this performance.

Constructed of highly polished 304 stainless steel, the system comes complete with two purification elements and utilizes the latest technological advances. This system has a storage capacity of about 2.25 gallons (8.5 liters) and when in use it stands 19.25″ in height with a diameter of 8.5″. The upper chamber nests within the lower chamber for transport and stands only 13″ in height.

Configured with two Black Berkey® purification elements the system will purify up to 3 1/2 Gallons (13.3 liters) per hour.

It was a huge treasure to discover this in 2007. It gives water that's taste doesn't compare-- so good! Having the water filter slowly and thoroughly is great and sufficient compared to the fast speed through faucet filters.

The stainless is a much better option for your health~ please read below.
In November 2007, we decided to get stainless, since I had just found info about the Lexan plastic {which is polycarbonate, plastic number 7} which releases the chemical Bisphenol A (BPA):

*mimics the body's own hormones
*interferes with estrogen
*endocrine disruptor
A new study reveals that it also interferes with thyroid hormones.

I had decided to see what the Berkey's plastic was made from, since I had just researched and discovered what polycarbonate was and that my Starbuck's water bottle was made of it. I immediately got rid of the bottle. This was a few months before the polycarbonate - BPA warnings came out widespread in the news in early 2008. Excess estrogen-mimic is shown to cause miscarriages. I had drank much from it and highly suspect it being the cause of 2 miscarriages I had in 2007. I did not have/use the polycarbonate bottle in my pregnancies in 2005/2006 or 2008, and I carried these 2 babies full term.

Heart-breaking way to find that I do not want to trust anything derived or in contact with chemicals or food additives/fortifiers.

I'm so glad I'm drinking from this and aware. I've also read that plastic no. 1 {used for most water bottles} is found IN the water after months {I'm curious about even sooner}.
Also BPA is in lining of canned foods.

I wanted to share this.. blessings of health to you! -- Pure and precious-- stainless healthier than plastic
I just read the above post in which the writer asked if there were ever any tests done and what the results from them were, and although I did not personally go and check out the results myself, here is what was posted with the product information on the Berkey on one website (Pleasant Hill Grain):

The Black Berkey® filter formulation has been tested by State & EPA accredited laboratories to exceed EPA & ANSI/NSF (Std. 53) protocol. Click to see test results from the University of Arizona, Spectrum Labs and the LSU Department of Toxicology and Environmental Science.

You can go to Pleasanthillgrain.com or to the individual websites above to see for yourself if you are interested. -- test reviews
I purchased the Big Berkey a few months ago. Although I found it a bit awkward to use in the beginning, I now I find to operate and work "like a charm". Technical support is wonderful and it's nice to have fresh clean water available at all times. I bought a water crock stand (oak) to support by Big Berkey so it does not have to rest at the edge of my kitchen countertop. MY BIG ISSUE? Has anyone performed any water tests on the Berkey filtered "before" and "after"????? I would like facts not just testimonials. I have performed the "red food coloring dye" test but I would like to know EXCACTLY the percentages of the contaminats "before" and "after". -- I would like FACTS not just testimonials
I L O V E T H I S W A T E R F I L T E R . . . ! Gravity makes it work (no electrical cost and works during power outages), two black Berkey filters lasts a year if you purify 3 gallons a day. CHEAP! I have two PF-2 filters added to mine to filter out the fluoride added to our city tap water (and any arsenic).

I have a sense of peace and satisfaction I have never gotten from another product other than maybe my first car. (I have mostly retired my car do the cost.)

Buy one of these babies SOON because there is and is no doubt going to be a run on good water filters. You'll be glad you did. (And NO I don't sell them nor do I know anyone who does -- though I sure would like to sell them). -- This is the water filter of my dreams (and I'm PICKY)....!
